Bears Expert Tom Waddle leaving Fox 32 for ABC 7?

Former Chicago Bears wide receiver and current ESPN 1000 midday co-host Tom Waddle might be leaving WFLD Fox 32 for ABC 7. He would potentially serve as the station’s Bears expert. That’s what Robert Feder, long time media critic formerly of the Chicago Sun-Times and Time Out Chicago, reported via his social media.

Tom Waddle did respond through Twitter.

Take a look at this exchange between Waddle and Feder:

Tom Waddle working with Mark Giangreco?

Seems like a natural fit; Giangreco is a guest on Waddle’s WMVP show (co hosted by Marc Silverman) quite a bit. And if Waddle indeed makes the jump, then we probably won’t see him on Fox’s The Final Word anymore; where he regularly appears with Silverman and Dionne Miller. It also makes us wonder if ABC 7 plans to start their own Sunday night talking head show? Will we have a WLS version of FW, NBC 5′s Sports Sunday and WGN’s Instant Replay?

If so, every local network affiliate would then have one; except for CBS.

Waddle also has a gig with NFL Network; which is obviously owned by the NFL. The league has broadcast deals with Fox, the current employer of Waddle, and ABC/ESPN/Disney, the other current employer of Waddle. It’s just this move would make Waddle a little less “Fox” and a little more “Disney.”

A couple of Waddle's colleagues were reached for comment on this story; but neither provided an on the record statement. An email to Tom Waddle was returned. He should be able to provide comment, hopefully confirmation, tomorrow.

Stay tuned!
