NASCAR Media pick Jimmie Johnson as 2013 season favorite

The annual preseason NASCAR media poll is out and the results show five-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson as the favorite to win the 2013 Cup points title. The season opening Daytona 500 is just days away.

Jimmie Johnson has qualified for the “postseason” Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup the past nine years. His 22 Chase wins are more than any other driver. Jimmie Johnson will start his 400th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in Sunday’s Daytona 500 (1 p.m. on FOX). He finished third last season behind champion Brad Keselowski and runner-up Clint Bowyer.

Kyle Busch earned the second-highest vote total, interesting since he called last season the worst of his career. Busch has made his mark already in ’13, winning the Duel at Daytona race on Thursday.

Rounding out the top 12 in the NASCAR media vote: defending champion Keselowski, Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, Carl Edwards, Denny Hamlin, Clint Bowyer, Matt Kenseth, Kevin Harvick and Kasey Kahne. No love for Danica Patrick. Oh well, I voted for her. I believe in her even if most of the NASCAR media does not.
