Olympic Notebook: Jordyn Wieber, Nastia Liukin, McKayla Maroney, Dana Vollmer

Olympic Notebook: Jordyn Wieber, Nastia Liukin, McKayla Maroney, Dana Vollmer

-So who suffered the bigger disappointment: Nastia Liukin or Jordyn Wieber? Both are devastating in their own right. But comment below who you think had/has it worse. If one more face of the U.S. women’s gymnastics suffers an elimination setback…you could start comparing them to Iowa Hawkeyes tailbacks.

-staying with gymnastics, I’ve seen Twitter chatter about McKayla Maroney (pictured above), and it's people tweeting about checking her out. And then feeling creepy/weird about checking her out, and not knowing her age. I even saw a funny tweet that said all gymnastics broadcasts should display the competitor’s age at all times.

She’s competing in the vault, despite a busted toe. (Washington Post)

-(Fourth Place Medal) Dana Vollmer’s cap came off in the middle of her world record, gold medal swim sprint

-Here’s that video again of Liukin face-planting the uneven bars, and the reason she’s not here.

-(Yahoo) there’s been a ton of lists of the “hottest olympic athletes” by every publication under the sun. I even did a list of the 8 hottest foreign, and 7 hottest domestic.

And four more female olympians who may be flying under the radar.

But the hottest overall team? That honor seems to belong to Dutch field hockey; according to the Yahoo Olympic blog

(Alexa) Look at how many olympic terms are trending right now. The subject matter is dominating the top 20 terms on Alexa.

-There’s so much vitriol for the on-air work of Ryan Seacrest this Olympics. He’s become the Chris Berman of NBC. Do a Twitter search and you’ll see no one likes him, and you wonder why he even has the gig. Just like Berman. Take a clue National Broadcasting Company; and WWL while we’re at it.
