Chicago's Notable Sports Deaths in 2013

Phil Henderson April 17, 1968- February 17, 2013

Henderson was an McDonald’s All-American at Crete-Monee before starring at Duke for Mike Krzyzewski. According to the Sun-Times, Henderson scored 1,397 points at Duke and was the leading scorer on their 1990 National Runner-up.

The Sun-TImes also noted that Henderson came back to Crete to run his alma mater’s summer basketball program in 2011, after they fired coach Matt Ryndak.

After Duke, Henderson played many years overseas, including the Philippines where he passed away of an apparent heart attack.
