Soto and Johnson
Hugged teammates in the dugout
As they said goodbye
Most nights a season high 14 run performance by the Cubs against the second-place Pirates would have been big news. Especially when the Cubs broke the game open with a 9-run fifth inning in which 12 Cubs (including 2 now-former Cubs) came to bat. But on Monday, with less than 24 hours left before the trade deadline, the big news was about who would still be a Cub after the game.
Twitter was full of guesses, but now we know that Geovanny Soto is going to Texas, while Reed Johnson and Paul Maholm were dealt to Atlanta. The Cubs will get three pitching prospects.
Still no word yet on whether Ryan Dempster will pitch for the Cubs on Tuesday night or be on his way to Los Angeles. Although it doesn't seem likely.
