A new Cubs pitcher
But he's 39 years old
Meet Ramon Ortiz
Veteran Ramon Ortiz was called up from AAA Iowa to take Carlos Zambrano's place in the rotation and become the 10th different starting pitcher the Cubs have used this season. After a rough first inning, which started with three straight hits and ended with the Nationals ahead 3-0, Ortiz settled down. He struck out 5 batters in 6 innings (after fanning 2 in the first) and gave up just three hits in five innings before leaving the game after the 6th with the Cubs down just one run.
But the Cubs couldn't mount any offense, and fell to the Nationals by the narrowest of margins for the second straight day.
