Five runs in the eighth
And Marmol's nasty ninth frame
Get the fans singing

Did anyone think
That the Cubs hero today
Would be Blake DeWitt?
Things were looking bleak until the eigth inning.  Pirates pitcher Paul Maholm needed only 7 pitches in three of the first four innings to take care of the Cubs.  Maholm faced just one batter over the minimum during those 4 innings. Carlos Zambrano was the only Cub to reach base, with a third inning double.
Through seven innings the Cubs managed just 5 hits and left 6 men on base.
But ten Cubs came to the plate in the bottom of the 8th, scoring 5 runs on 4 hits, a walk and a defensive error.  After an Alfonso Soriano single tied the game, DeWitt doubled with the bases loaded to give the Cubs the lead.
Wood, Marshall and Marmol each pitched one inning, and combined for 6 strike outs - including three nasty K's by Marmol in the ninth - to give the Cubs an exciting come from behind win.
The rubber game of the series is Sunday, with Matt Garza scheduled to take the mound against Ross Ohlendorf.
