Cubs In Haiku: Hendry Finally Grows A Pair

Bradley suspended
He's "too much to tolerate"
So says Jim Hendry

Finally, Cubs management takes action against Milton Bradley and his big mouth.

According to the Daily Herald:

When
approached, Bradley said he didn't want to talk about his knee.  When
asked if he was disappointed in his own performance, he didn't want to
answer that, either.  "I'm not talking about that," he said. What do
you think I did?"  Bradley claimed to have no opinion on where he bats
- "In the lineup," he said of his preferred spot - and the only time he
became expansive at all was when he was asked if he had enjoyed his
first season in Chicago.

"Not really," he said. "It's just not a
positive environment. I need a stable, healthy, enjoyable environment.
There's too many people everywhere in your face with a microphone
asking the same questions repeatedly. Everything is just bashing you.
You got out there and you play harder than anybody on the field and
never get credit for it. It's just negativity.

Never,
Milt?  Really?  You know that's not true.  I was at Wrigley field on
August 26th, the day after you went 4-for-4.  The fans cheered when you
were introduced.  And they cheered again when you hit a 3-run home
run.  I saw the fans in right field leaning over the basket and showing
their appreciation when you returned to your position in right field.
And what did you do?  You literally turned your back on them while
playing catch with Kosuke waiting for the inning to start.  I have a
feeling this wasn't the only time this happened.

Then, the man who never knows when to shut up says this:

"And
you understand why they haven't won in 100 years here, because it's
negative. It's what it is."  Asked whether he was talking about the
fans, the media or even the Cubs organization, he replied: "It's
everything. It's everybody."  However, he would not go so far as to say
he regretted coming to Chicago.  "No, I made the decision," he said. It
is what it is."

Yeah, those Cubs fans are so
negative ... all 3,000,000 who attend games at Wrigley each year.  They
just refuse to support their team.

We've heard all this before, of course.  But this time Jim Hendry finally speaks up.  The Tribune reports:

"The last few days became too much for me to tolerate," Hendry said.

"I'm
certainly not going to let our great fans become excuses," Hendry said.
"I'm not going to tolerate [Bradley] not being able to answer questions
from the media respectably."

Thanks alot, Jim.  Where were you the last time Bradley blamed his problems on the fans?

I
think there are lots of Cubs fans who would be thrilled to see a new GM
and a new right fielder introduced at the Cubs Convention in January.

Update:

Now Bradley's teammates
Speak out on his suspension
Show no sympathy

Ryan Dempster said it was "unfortunate," but that Bradley brought it on himself. Aramis Ramirez said Jim Hendry made the right call, and Derrek Lee called on Bradley to apologize for his actions.

"At the end of the day, he was provided a great opportunity to be part of a really great organization with a lot of really good guys," Dempster said. "It just didn't seem to make him happy- anything. Hopefully this is a little bit of a wake-up call for him and he'll realize how good of a gig you have. It probably became one of those things where you start saying things that you're putting the blame on everybody else.

"Sometimes you've just got to look in the mirror and realize that maybe the biggest part of the problem is yourself and (not) wanting to be here and play every day, and wanting to have some fun. it didn't seem like he wanted to have some fun, even from spring training.
