Northwestern football returning to Wrigley Field, Cubs and NU Hooking Up

Northwestern football returning to Wrigley Field, Cubs and NU Hooking Up
In some ways, the Northwestern Wildcats and Chicago Cubs were meant for each other. Both had/have major droughts. The NU college football team just won their first bowl game since 1949, and the college basketball has never ever made the NCAA Tournament, 70+ tries. As you’ve heard a million times, the Cubs haven’t been to... Read more »

Tension between Cubs and Wrigleyville Rooftops inevitable

Tension between Cubs and Wrigleyville Rooftops inevitable
In the 2000s, the Chicago Cubs and the owners of the rooftops surrounding Wrigley Field had quite a tiff going on. The Cubs put up fences in the bleachers blocking the view of the Wrigleyville rooftops, so the rooftop owners built their seats higher above it. Then the ballclub put up another screen blocking the view, claiming it was for “post 9/11 security screens.” After years of squabbling they settled on the small business owners giving them 17%. You can see how both sides have a point- the local businesses help build the Wrigleyville neighborhood up from dangerous ghetto on the outskirts to trendy, adult playground. The Cubs have a point in that someone else is directly profiting off their product. Well the years of detente are over and it looks like there’s going to be another battle over revenue between the two interests...

Cubs logo on Travis Wood's batting helmet escaping: PHOTO
The Chicago Cubs are on pace to lose at least 105 games, and 110 is on the table. For historical reference, the club record for Ls is 103. Things are getting so bad for the Cubbies that even their logo is trying to flee away from the team. Take a look at Cubs pitcher Travis Wood, and his batting helmet. This occurred in last night’s win over the New York Mets in which Wood out-dueled Johan Santana...

Cubs select son of Manager Dale Sveum in MLB Draft

Cubs select son of Manager Dale Sveum in MLB Draft
In this job market, nepotism rules. Yesterday the Chicago Cubs selected third baseman Rustin Sveum, son of Cubs manager Dale Sveum, in the 39th round (1,184th) out of Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale, Arizona. Hey, it’s not what you know, but who you know right? Last year, the Cubs drafted Shawon Dunston Jr. so... Read more »

White Sox interested in trading Cubs for Ryan Dempster?

White Sox interested in trading Cubs for Ryan Dempster?
“Could the Cubs send Ryan Dempster 8.1 miles south to the White Sox?” That was the question posed by WSCR’s David Schuster during the Sox pregame show Saturday. “Dempster has pitched well but has nothing to show for it,” Schuster further explained minutes before the White Sox took on the Cleveland Indians at U.S. Cellular... White Sox Morel, Cubs LaHair: opposite ends of statistical spectrum

White Sox Morel, Cubs LaHair: opposite ends of statistical spectrum
Today’s White Sox vs. Cubs series began with very little pomp and circumstance. Since 2008, when both teams were in first place upon meeting, the red line rivalry has approached with less excitement and intrigue every season. This year, both teams entered with very low expectations and so far living down to them, as each... Read more »

Cubs Bleacher Tickets have inflated over 1000% in less than 15 years

Cubs Bleacher Tickets have inflated over 1000% in less than 15 years
Last season, ticket sales got so slow for the Chicago Cubs that they were giving tickets away, literally. Not of course for the big games versus the New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals- but for many contests during the season you could easily find free tickets on the street. Now you... Read more »

Cubs Draw 3 Million Fans, Name Organization Player, Pitcher of the Year
The Chicago Cubs today reached three million fans at Wrigley Field for the eighth season in a row and will be one of only four major league baseball franchises to surpass the mark every year starting in 2004. Remember, this for tickets sold, not fans showing up. Because we’ve seen how empty Wrigley has been... Read more »
