is coming to Soldier Field
for the first time in the venue’s legendary history. On Feb. 17, 2013
, Soldier Field will play host to the inaugural Hockey City Classic
– an outdoor college hockey
doubleheader featuring premier programs: University of Notre Dame vs. Miami University
and University of Minnesota vs. University of Wisconsin.
Game times will be announced at a later date.
The Hockey City Classic will be preceded by two weeks of winter festivities, including: two days of free public ice skating; youth, high school and adult hockey
events; private ice rentals; and much more. The Hockey City Classic is being organized by Chicago-based sports and entertainment marketing agency Intersport, in partnership with Soldier Field and the Chicago Park District...
Doing a power rankings is fun and interesting in the beginning and/or middle of the season. Towards the end, it’s kind of useless. You just look at the standings. Also, preconference basketball doesn’t really mean as much as conference action. That’s when we’ll learn a lot more. Now that Butler has knocked off the #1 Hoosiers
, you know they’ll lose their spot at #1 here as well.
Guess who the new #1 is...
It’s that time of year again, when I make smart ass remarks justifying why I’m picking one college football
team to beat another. Not only do I give you the full bowl schedule with tv listings, there’s fun and goofy pictures of cheerleaders
and hot female fans interspersed within the listing.
And to make the post more pure to the game and traditional, I took OUT all the corporate sponsor names of the bowls...
No snarky or witty intro here, let’s just get down to the brass tax. You know what this post is about. For our team power rankings go here 1. Denard Robinson- Wolverines All his deep completions are just lucky jump balls that he throws up there. And he lofts it when he shouldn’t. And doesn’t... Read more »
These are highly subject to change. Brady Hoke remarked at Media Day that UM was picked fifth in their division a year ago; and just outside the top 25 in the year they won their last national title- 1997. So maybe these rankings don’t really mean all that much? Of course, that won’t stop you... Read more »
In 2011, the Minnesota Golden Gophers
played a very powerhouse USC team very tight, and utterly destroyed an Illini
team that had completely quit on Ron Zook
when they met in Minneapolis. Those were the highlights of a bad 3-9 season.
The lowlights? a loss to dreadful North Dakota State which kicked off a horrendous four game losing streak that saw the Gophers
outscored 31-144. New regimes take time, so maybe year two will be better? Well, the Minnesota state legislature approved the sale of beer on game days for 2012, so at least they’ll have that...
Like the famous book is titled “Death to the BCS ,” and it looks like it’s finally here as the University presidents announced approval of a 4-team seeded playoff for college football
. The committee will select teams based on conference championships and strength of schedule, beginning with the 2014 season.
There will be 6 bowls to be utilized as part of the semifinals, likely to include the 4 BCS bowls. The title game will be bid out to cities just like the Super Bowl. One city you’ll see for sure in the mix is Indianapolis...
NU dealt themselves a serious blow to their own NCAA Tournament hopes tonight. They were right on the cusp, that “last 4 in” line, but probably not so much anymore. Granted they still need four teams to play their way above them, but Championship week is long and those type of things develop quite quickly.... Read more »
Last night I was lucky enough to be at a small private reception that included Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany. Yes, I was at the same party as the most powerful man in the prestigious college basketball and college football league. Delaney’s a University of North Carolina alum, and this was a Chicago Carolina Club... Read more »
One of the main storylines in the Big Ten entering this college football season was all the dual threat quarterbacks. Well so far, I’d say it’s really only Wisconsin‘s Russell Wilson and Nathan Scheelhaase who fit that bill. Michigan’s Denard Robinson did throw for over 330 yards and 4 TDs, but he is an average...
