Big 10 Power Rankings: extremely glib edition

Big 10 Power Rankings: extremely glib edition
Doing a power rankings is fun and interesting in the beginning and/or middle of the season. Towards the end, it’s kind of useless. You just look at the standings. Also, preconference basketball doesn’t really mean as much as conference action. That’s when we’ll learn a lot more. Now that Butler has knocked off the #1 Hoosiers, you know they’ll lose their spot at #1 here as well. Guess who the new #1 is...

NIU Huskies come up just short vs. Iowa at Soldier Field

NIU Huskies come up just short vs. Iowa at Soldier Field
In Soldier Field Showdown III the PA system didn’t work for almost nearly a half. There wasn’t a lot of material noise, but a message was sent with the college football being played at the home of the Chicago Bears. For the NIU Huskies this was a home game, but the crowd was overwhelmingly... Read more »

B1G QB Power Rankings: 2012 Preseason
No snarky or witty intro here, let’s just get down to the brass tax. You know what this post is about. For our team power rankings go here 1. Denard Robinson- Wolverines All his deep completions are just lucky jump balls that he throws up there. And he lofts it when he shouldn’t. And doesn’t... Read more »

Post Media Day B1G Power Rankings

Post Media Day B1G Power Rankings
These are highly subject to change. Brady Hoke remarked at Media Day that UM was picked fifth in their division a year ago; and just outside the top 25 in the year they won their last national title- 1997. So maybe these rankings don’t really mean all that much? Of course, that won’t stop you... Read more »

Iowa Hawkeyes Football 2012 Season Preview

Iowa Hawkeyes Football 2012 Season Preview
One thing I won’t get to do this year when writing about Iowa Hawkeyes football is say Marvin MCNUTT! Because the greatest receiver in UI history and funnest name to say is now gone, haven re-written the Iowa City record book along the way. 2011 was: another solid year, another bowl appearance. Yet another year... Read more »

Details on new College Football Playoff System

Details on new College Football Playoff System
Like the famous book is titled “Death to the BCS ,” and it looks like it’s finally here as the University presidents announced approval of a 4-team seeded playoff for college football. The committee will select teams based on conference championships and strength of schedule, beginning with the 2014 season. There will be 6 bowls to be utilized as part of the semifinals, likely to include the 4 BCS bowls. The title game will be bid out to cities just like the Super Bowl. One city you’ll see for sure in the mix is Indianapolis...

Illini Continue Dominating Rivalry with Hawkeyes

Illini Continue Dominating Rivalry with Hawkeyes
Iowa Hawkeyes country is college football country. Right now, it’s just not a college basketball town. Today’s loss at Illinois doesn’t help that. It was an Illini team that really needed a win, and for some reason Iowa can’t seem to beat Illinois lately. The Illini improved their record vs Iowa at home to 61-14... Read more »

Big 10 Bowl Projections: It All Starts with the Wisconsin Badgers

Big 10 Bowl Projections: It All Starts with the Wisconsin Badgers
When looking at the Big Ten conference standings, and trying to figure out the hierarchy for the college football bowl system, I can’t help but think of one of my favorite lines from the ’80s movie “Fletch.” “I’d say we’re in a gray area.” “How gray?” “Charcoal.” We do know this however- the Big Ten... Touring Big 10 Network HQ & Conference Expansion Talk
Last night I was lucky enough to be at a small private reception that included Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany. Yes, I was at the same party as the most powerful man in the prestigious college basketball and college football league. Delaney’s a University of North Carolina alum, and this was a Chicago Carolina Club... Read more »

Big 10 Power Rankings

Big 10 Power Rankings
One of the main storylines in the Big Ten entering this college football season was all the dual threat quarterbacks. Well so far, I’d say it’s really only Wisconsin‘s Russell Wilson and Nathan Scheelhaase who fit that bill. Michigan’s Denard Robinson did throw for over 330 yards and 4 TDs, but he is an average...
