Blackhawks prospects, ND hockey on display in Soldier Field Victory

Blackhawks prospects, ND hockey on display in Soldier Field Victory
There are potentially five future Chicago Blackhawks on the 12th ranked Notre Dame hockey team. No wonder the Hawks sent scouts to the Soldier Field press box today to check out what ND hockey has to offer. And ND hockey prevailed 2-1 over the #3 Miami Red Hawks in the first of the Hockey City classic's two games. Wisconsin and Minnesota met in the matinee. Irish junior Stephen Johns (2 shots, 1 block) was drafted by the Blackhawks in the 2nd round of 2010. Vince Hinostroza will be in South Bend next year. But today was less about the future or prospects than it was the spectacle and event. Hawks ambassador Denis Savard entertained the frozen crowd in between intermission, and a Miami of Ohio fan ran onto the field put a couple on moves on security that Walter Payton (this is Soldier Field) would be proud of. Later after the press conferences, I saw him in handcuffs...

Denis Savard flourishing as Chicago Blackhawks Ambassador

Denis Savard flourishing as Chicago Blackhawks Ambassador
Denis Savard may not have been the perfect coach for the Chicago Blackhawks (but he was a decent bench boss at the time for the team), but he is currently flourishing as the team’s ambassador. The former center was the biggest star on the team in the 1980s, and his stint as coach in the late 2000s helped revive interest in the team. He just wasn’t the guy to bring them the Cup. But as ambassador, he’s perfect. And I caught up to him last week as he helped unveil the Hockey City Classic, a college hockey double header between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Miami Red Hawks, Minnesota Golden Gophers and Wisconsin Badgers...

The Chicago Blackhawks finally made a public comment today on the Patrick Kane party photos that caused such an internet stir a couple weeks ago. Feud between Joel Quenneville and Stan Bowman? Coach Q to Montreal?
It’s quite possible Chicago Blackhawks Coach Joel Quenneville may not be back next season, even if he is under contract. Coach Q. and the Montreal Canadiens could be a perfect fit. One relationship that appears to be anything but perfect is that between Quenneville and GM Stan Bowman. It’s actually rather strained. Hockey Night in... Read more »

Patrick Kane's Cinco de Mayo Party Photos (passed out at UW)
The Chicago Blackhawks Patrick Kane is at it again. Or more likely, he’s been at it, but this time he’s been shutterbugged and published.  This is courtesy of Terez Owens. We have some fun pics for you. From the Terez Owens “tipster” comes this: “I go to the University of Wisconsin-Madison and we had our... Read more »

Blackhawks raise ticket prices again; costs are getting very high!
For the third time since 2008, the year that the Cubification of the Chicago Blackhawks started, the team is raising ticket prices. That was the year snake oil saleman John McDonough and his lickspittle Jay Blunk came to the team and took over the front office. Hockey may be the sixth or seventh favorite sport,... Read more »

Derrick Rose buys Trump Tower condo; now neighbors with Patrick Kane

Derrick Rose buys Trump Tower condo; now neighbors with Patrick Kane
Talk about the top of the Chicago food chain. It seems Chicago Bulls franchise player Derrick Rose and his counterpart on the Blackhawks (although technically Jonathan Toews is the better/more important player) now live in the same building. And not just any building: Chicago’s most recently built skyscraper of skyscrapers, Trump Tower. Rose just bought... Read more »

Blackhawks make two Defenseman for Draft Pick Deals

Blackhawks make two Defenseman for Draft Pick Deals
In a last second before the 2012 NHL Trade Deadline deal, the Blackhawks sent their main protector, defenseman John Scott to the New York Rangers. TSN reports the Blackhawks received a fifth-round pick in exchange for Scott. Getting rid of Scott leaves the Hawks without a true “enforcer” to retaliate against the hits that will... Read more »

Why is Wayne Gretzky Skating in a Blackhawks Sweater?
No that’s not an airbrush or a photo shop. It’s truly The Great One Wayne Gretzky in a Chicago Blackhawks jersey. It’s a vision every Hawks fan dreamed of in 1986. Upon further inspection of a pic that is pure blasphemy to Los Angeles Kings and Edmonton Oilers fans…   …you can buy it at... Read more »
