While Illinois falters, Bruce Weber shines at Kansas State

While Illinois falters, Bruce Weber shines at Kansas State
After the 2012 season, Illinois couldn’t wait to get rid of Coach Bruce Weber. With all the “talent” the Illinois squad had, fans felt Bruce was the final roadblock in their return to contender status in the Big 10. Illini nation’s wish was granted, and Bruce was launched after the 2012 season. The results one... Read more »

Illini’s Brandon Paul needs to be playmaker, not just scorer

Illini’s Brandon Paul needs to be playmaker, not just scorer
Richardson for three, Paul for three, Paul again for three….Illinois play-by-play announcer Brian Barnhart has been uttering those words a lot this year. This year’s Illinois squad is on pace to attempt 785 three point field goals, 174 more than last year. Until someone steps up and becomes the “playmaker” this team desperately needs, the... David Shaw and Chicago Bears, a perfect fit

David Shaw and Chicago Bears, a perfect fit
The Bears don’t need to over pay for Jon Gruden.  They don’t need a retread like Bill Cowher.  They don’t need the “hot” coordinator like Mike McCoy or Kyle Shanahan.  Phil Emery expressed last week that the coaching search was going to be thorough, exploring all levels of football to find the right guy to... Notre Dame’s Manti Te’o the modern day Mike Singletary

Notre Dame’s Manti Te’o the modern day Mike Singletary
Intense eyes, heart and soul of the defense, coach on the field; these were all phrases used in tonight’s National Championship to describe Notre Dame standout middle linebacker Manti Te’o.  Does this sound familiar Bears fans?  Watching Te’o play in tonight’s National Championship should remind everyone of Mike Singletary, a very talented but overrated player. Not... Read more »

Kevin Sumlin making Illinois football fans think “What if…”

Kevin Sumlin making Illinois football fans think “What if…”
During Texas A&M’s victory over Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl, Gus Johnson yelled “This Texas A&M offense knows how to keep you off balance.”  The only thing that is off balance with the Illini football program is Tim Beckman when he meets a referee on the sideline.  While the Texas A&M program is on the... Five reasons why Notre Dame will defeat Alabama for the National Championship

Five reasons why Notre Dame will defeat Alabama for the National Championship
If you ask people in the South, there is the SEC, and the rest of college football.  If you don’t play in the SEC, you aren’t a “real” college football team.  Before the National Championship was determined, Vegas had Notre Dame as underdogs against four possible SEC teams (Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and Texas A&M).  Currently,... I'm what they call a Chicago sports junkie. I'm a season ticket holder for the Northwestern Wildcats and Chicago Bears and go to a ton of games at Wrigley, US Cellular, and the United Center. I live in suburban Elmhurst with my beautiful wife who also love sports. Unfortunately for me, she is a Cowboys fan (still working on changing that). Even though her allegiance is to the Cowboys, she too loves all of the Chicago teams. We even had Staley Da Bear at our wedding, and let me tell you, Da Bear can play the drums. There isn't a Chicago game that either of us miss! I graduated from Elmhurst College and was a four year starting pitcher for the squad. Baseball is what I know and what I love. Although my playing days are behind me, I still coach both at the college level (Elmhurst College) and legion level (Gurnee Riverdogs).
