Samardzija Sets Career High, Cubs Win

Jeff Samardzija gave the Cubs the pitching performance they have been looking for since Ryan Dempster was traded to Texas and Matt Garza went to the DL.  Samardzija fanned a career high 11 as the Cubs cruised to a 7-1 victory over the Houston Astros.  The Cubs' bats actually awoke from their slumber as well as Alfonso Soriano and Darwin Barney both homered and Anthony Rizzo went 4-5 raising his batting average to .306.

The game wasn't without it's lows though as the recent Cubs call ups struggled for the most part.  Brett Jackson and Josh Vitters both had no hits and Wellington Castillo went 1-4.  The Cubs have won just their second game out of the last ten and are still 25 games under .500.

They look to make it two in a row against the Astros when Chris Volstad takes the bump for the Cubs against the Astros' Lucas Harrell.
