The Cubs continued their recent trend of losing games by giving up multiple runs in single innings and Monday night in Milwaukee was no exception as the Brewers beat the Cubs 9-5, eight of their runs coming in the fifth inning. Cubs pitcher Justin Germano was rocked, giving up seven earned runs on eight hits and lasting only 4 2/3 innings. The Brewers sent eleven batters to the plate during the eight run fifth inning and recorded seven hits. Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy belted two home runs and drove in four to lead the Brewers offense.
The Cubs actually lead the game early on with a 3-1 lead thanks to a ground rule double by Anthony Rizzo, a sac fly by David DeJesus and Josh Vitters(above) getting his first home run in a Cubs uniform. The offense ended with a screeching halt and it was all Brewers the rest of the way. The Cubs hope to rebound in Tuesday's contest when they send rookie lefty pitcher Chris Rusin to the mound against the Brewers Marco Estrada(0-5, 4.52).
