Thanksgiving means Turkey Bowls

Whether you are hosting or traveling this holiday, you can always make a little time for some rugby. There are a few different Turkey Bowls going on this year. Two of them are on Thanksgiving and a great way to get your family out and moving around before the big dinner, it's also a way to get that niece of nephew to try out rugby.

If you are celebrating in the city, you can join the Chicago Wapiti, parents, and supporters in their 4th Annual Ruck-N-Gobble. They will be playing at Cricket Hill, in a totally free event for everyone, they encourage you to " just show up ready to have fun!" The event will happen sun, rain or snow, so make sure you dress for the weather. All skill or no skill levels are welcome. There will be event T-Shirts $15 or FREE for first 20 adults & kids. Some light food & beverages provided, of course you can always bring something to share too. It will be going on from 10am to 1pm, or until everyone filters out.

If you're heading to the Northern Suburbs, you can head over to the American Legion in Arlington Heights for Turkey Touch Bowl with the Northwest Woodsmen. Play free social touch with the Woodsmen all day, open to High/Middle school, Old Boys, players of all ages and genders welcome: Touch starts at 11:30AM.  You can just hang out too if you'd like, the legion will have the bar open for spectators. Grab a quick snack to get your appetite going with a hot dog social to follow. See your favorite teams there from the northwest Palatine, Schaumberg, Arlington Heights, Old Boys, Colleges, Japan.

If Thanksgiving just isn't going to happen for you, then you can always participate in the Turkey Bowl that the Sirens will be at in Douglas Park on 18th and California in the city. Kick off will be at 1:00pm, all are welcome to join and have a fun game.

Which ever you choose, it's a great way to work off some of those holiday dishes and desserts, if you aren't able to shop them off. If you are doing Black Friday Shopping, remember you rugby basics. Get Low, avoid contact, but if you have to go in hard. Speed is everything where strength leaves off.

Also only a few days left in the month of November to make a difference and donate to your local rugby teams that are doing Movember like the Chicago Riot Rugby Club! Raise awareness and funds for a good cause, helping fight prostate cancer.
