There a less women's then men's club teams in the Chicago area, so a lot of people choose solely on location. The Will County Morrigans are located in Manhattan, IL which is right by New Lenox and Joliet. Their club president Jessica Ewing took some time to answers questions about the club. The Morrigans are just as fun as they are competitive according to Ewing.
We take our games seriously but we take the after party even more seriously
The team plays on the DII Level, within the west Bracket, alongside teams like Indianapolis Hoydens, Ann Arbor, Chicago Sirens & Fox Valley Vixens. The team tries to be flexible with players, and like any team prefer full attendance at practices and games, but they understand that "life happens". If what you are looking for is a team you'll be able to get playing time with, the Morrigans do their best to make sure everyone plays, and you won't sit out because you week has been crazy and you couldn't make a few practices.
The amount of travel changes with the seasons. During the spring the team may go to tournament like Nashbash or All Fools, but for league play the games stay relatively close from Chicago to St. Charles. The team has players from age 18-40. ABout the feel of the team, Ewing says
We treat each other like sisters/family & we're always open to new adopted half siblings. We are a team filled with heart, are known as a bunch of different characters, & have respect for each other & the game we love to play. We love our teammates no matter their skill level or how weird they may be. We look forward to practices & games not only because rugby is the best sport ever but also because we can't wait to see each other and just have fun. This team is guaranteed to supply you with knowledge of rugby, best friends and memories of a lifetime.
The team practices at Nova Quarter Horse 10129 W. 187th Street, Mokena, IL 60448 Thursday nights & have a condition practice Tuesdays with changing locations.
Dues are $65 for general players, college students $40. They also have Social (non playing team members) dues remain at $25. As far as a bar of choice goes, Ewing says that the team "doesn't discriminate any bars", however the ones in the Joliet area they go to the most are Bit O Blarney's
(Manhattan) Chicago Street Pub
Similar to other clubs, the Morrigans have a few events that they put on in the spring. They have a Tiki Fest, as well as a Rookie Night/Awards Night. The team tries to make one of their further away games team bonding weekend or try to take a trip somewhere. The also have an annual camping weekend at Yogi Bear.
