The Lake County Rugby Club, is on of the few clubs not concentrated in the city. In fact, they are the only rugby club in Lake County. So, from Antioch to Zion, Lake Zurich to Buffalo Grove, this club can be to convenient choice for you if you work or live in that area.
The Club President, Michael Bailey, has been around rugby and even helped start a college club. His background consists of founding the Calvin College Rugby Club, and playing with clubs out side of the Chicago land area, Grand Rapids Gazelles, Hilton Head Gators, 2009 Michigan Collegiate Selects, 2011 CARFU Selects.
Aside from LCRC being the only Men's rugby club in Lake County, IL, they are easy to access located right off of I-94 in Gurnee at Grandwood Park District. The club is one of the newer, founded in fall of 1990, with around 30 active members. LCRC is currently a Division III team with the Chicago Area Rugby Football Union. Their players range from people with competitive rugby playing experience, to new guys who have never stepped on the pitch before. Bailey describes the team saying they are,
Competitive- We are continuing to build the club and offer competition at each position on the pitch.We also focus on player development. We are dedicated to developing players 'off the street'. Several of our members came to the team with no experience at all and we have trained and developed solid players.
Their dues are some of the lowest, at $100 per season, and just $50 for new players, that they call their Greenhorns. This spring, they've been practicing Thursday Nights from 7pm-9pm at Shabonee Elementary, in Northbrook, IL when they were still indoors. Outside practice are held Tuesdays and Thursdays 7-9pm, at 36630 North Hutchins Rd., Gurnee, IL.
