NATO will make getting to events a pain

NATO will be bring plenty of road blocks making any game you're trying to get to this weekend a big pain. There are CARFU final games going on, iYRA will be putting on a Rookie Rugby Clinic at the East Garfield Park Olympic Sports Festival, and there will be a rugby combine at Eric Solorio High School. Getting around will take easily a half hour more so be ready for plenty of detours and side streets depending on where you are coming from and going to.

The spring season is getting ever closer to a ending, with the CARFU final games taking place this weekend. Going for 1st Place is Clinton v Chicago Lions, for 3rd is Chicago Blaze v Chicago Griffins, 5th Milwaukee Barbarians and Wisconsin RFC. There will also be a few open games around the city. The Riot will be U of C and have to try to get to the campus with out using LSD.  If you are looking for a game to watch this weekend make sure you don't rely on google maps, and try to look for routes avoiding highways once you're in the city.

If you're looking for opportunities to enjoy the game especially for younger ones there's an event to take the kids to. This weekend Illinois Youth and Rugby Association has been invited back to participate in the 2nd Annual East Garfield Park Olympic Sports Festival at Westinghouse High School. There will be stations set up to channel kids quickly through basic rules & skills, and get them playing tag rugby. If you like working with kids, iYRA is looking for a few extra volunteers to help out at the event and you can contact them through their website.

It's also not too late to sign up for the High School and College Recruitment Rugby Combine at Eric Solorio High School. On Saturday the south side school will hold Chicago high school athletes, club teams, and colleges. As I said before this is a great way, no matter what sport your high school athlete plays to get recruited and get some money for college. It's free for all players, you just have to sign up before Saturday. The combine will be from 1pm-4pm, and players will be able to talk to college and university coaches from across the U.S.

On ESPN 3 will be the finals of the College D1 Championships, as well as the High School National Championships. The D1 finals game between BYU and Arkansas State will definitely be a good one to watch as the Razorbacks have had a strong team for well over a decade. Cathedral High School in Indianapolis and Kansas City Jr. Blues are the final two Midwest teams in the championships. There are also High School National Invitationals  in which two more Indiana and a Kansas City team are playing.

Try not to let this NATO weekend keep you home bound and get out and enjoy a game, take your kids to try the sport, or get a young talented high school athlete to get their feet wet at the Combine and get exposed as they start looking into their future college choices.
