Perfect Chicago Holiday Day

Although the weather hasn’t exactly shown it, the colder winter months are upon us. Most think of winter as a time to stay indoors with a cup of hot cocoa to avoid the cold. What many people don’t realize is that there are so many fun, creative, and exciting things to do in Chicago this time of year! As Chicago wedding planners we know the city quite well so here are a few suggestions for a perfect Chicago winter day!

Start with brunch at any great Chicago restaurant. If you're planning a Chicago wedding, take every meal out as a trial for either your Chicago rehearsal dinner or Chicago wedding brunch (use it as your excuse)! Then explore Millennium Park and let your inner child free while you ice skate! The best part about ice skating in Millennium Park is that you have the iconic Chicago Skyline as your back drop and you don’t have to worry about falling through any thin ice.

By the time you’re finished skating you need a little time to rest and recharge. What better place to do just that than the Walnut Room in Macy’s?  Their 45 foot tall tree strikes awe into all that gaze at it. Having a late lunch around the magnificent tree will most certainly put you in the Christmas spirit if you aren’t in it already! To add a little tip –because we are Chicago wedding planners and that’s what we do—think about making a reservation because there might be a wait. After lunch or afternoon tea make sure you walk the State Street facade and behold Macy’s window displays. Michigan Avenue is also full of fabulous window displays and all of them can bring a little inspiration to Chicago wedding decor. They are always over the top and a bit off beat and that is exactly what you need when designing a unique Chicago wedding! Or wander over to theChriskrindle Market for some holiday shopping or spiced wine.

Once it's dark out, head up to see the Lincoln Park Zoo Lights! You’ll get to see all the animals in person plus a few larger than life creatures entirely made of lights! They bathe the zoo in over two million lights! The best way to wrap up your chilly Chicago day is the light show they set to holiday music in the South Lawn.

And there you have it. A quintessential and perfect Chicago winter day. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend! xo BCB
