Walking on Sunshine

Alright I admit it… I’ve gotten a little too LA with regard to transportation.  I love my car.  I love everything about having a car – convenience, preservation of personal space and the ability to zip across the city at will.  Good times.

But the thing about having a car is that it makes you kind of location-impaired.  That light bulb moment happened to me when I came downtown for a meeting.  I usually drive to these things, but I decided to take public transportation.  Mind you, that’s all I ever did before I had the car, but once you go car, you never go back.  Or so they say…

So here I am walking on sunshine, totally over-stimulated with all the traffic and crowds dashing to and fro.  It’s been a while since I ventured from the cocoon of my car, but this rare glimpse into sidewalk life has given me the opportunity to once again stop and see, and experience.  To my delight, I was able to sample one of my favorite past times – people watching.  Post meeting, I also walked around checking out window displays, sidewalk café menus, etc.  I even had a bit of an encounter with some out-of-towners.  We had a nice exchange on favorite Chicago venues.

So that’s my lesson.  Life sparkles a bit more when I get out of my car, and take a walk in the sun.

  • I'm an anomaly in that not only do I not own a car, I don't want one. Family and friends deride me for it, and women, well for the most part they ain't having none of it.

I've owned cars and I miss driving, buti dont think it is as much a convenience as people are led to believe, or more aptly 'lulled' to believe.

I could go on, but we are already convinced, so why bother.

  • I've never understood why women are so repulsed by men who don't drive cars. Driving is such a stressful thing in Chicago.

  • Gentlemen,

I'm neither close-minded nor repulsed by men who decide not to own or drive cars.

To each his own mode of transportation.
