Upon catching up on the news this AM, one story
in particular struck me. Seems there was
a robbery of a beauty supply store. The
thieves didn't take cash - they took product.
Specifically, they took $80,000 worth of human hair.
Now I'm not condoning the illegal activity here,
but I'm a bit tickled over the fact these crooks knew what they were doing.
The hair is a product used primarily by the
African American community. African
American women, in particular, spend nearly $20 billion annually to keep their coifs,
natural and not, camera-ready. And if there
was any on the premises, the bad guys didn't bother with any stored cash. They went for the goods that were sure to
return a black market profit.
Call me Pollyanna, but what if this bad-guy ingenuity
were applied elsewhere - like towards the creation of a legitimate business, perhaps
a startup? All that planning, hard work
and implementation used for the greater good of building a business, servicing a
niche and creating happy customers. What
a concept. Instead, the baddies now have
to move tainted product under the watchful eye of the local authorities.
Hope none of the cops have weaves.
