I was an 18-year-old Girl Scout. I'm not ashamed to admit it. Us ladies of Troop 678 had been camping and selling cookies since we were little kids, and as we got older we met once a month and planned fun activities.
People used to make fun of us.... that is, until we took 10 years worth of cookie money, and jetted off to an all-inclusive resort in Mexico the summer after senior year. Nothing says "merrit badge" like a group of suburban girls doing tequila shots.
I always look back fondly on my time as a Girl Scout, which is why I'm glad they've partnered with a fantastic Chicago restaurant for a fun event tomorrow night.
Geja's Cafe is celebrating National Toasted Marshmallow Day (best made up holiday ever!) with a campfire on the patio from 5 to 10 p.m. tomorrow night. Are your s'mores skills a little rusty? Local Girl Scouts will be there to supervise construction. Just make a $5 donation to the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana.
Now, if only they were selling Thin Mints to go on those s'mores...
