My wallet was stolen on the EL the other day, and running around trying to replace everything has been a giant pain in my ass. Not only are all my credit cards and debit cards gone, I also lost my essential Chicago Card. And it wasn't one of the reloadable ones. It was hooked up to my paycheck so I could use my company's transit program. Needless to say, I'm screwed without it.
I hauled myself down to the CTA headquarters yesterday, expecting to find a soul sucking place of sadness and ebola, similar to what I experienced when I went to the DMV to replace my drivers license. I found a lively building with friendly workers and some pretty cool distractions.
This hangs over the atrium when you walk in. If you can't tell, its a combination of the various train lines mooshed to form an image of an EL car. Clever and aesthetically pleasing.
If you do find yourself at 500 W Lake, you'll find another similarity between the CTA building and Disney World: Long lines and screaming children. Not everything can be perfect - this is still Chicago.
