Dare I say it......I think spring is here! This exceptionally long winter, along with being uprooted from East Lakeview and moving to Wicker Park, has left me a little less quirky than normal. But I think a few sunny days will perk me right up! Here are a few of the fun activities happening this weekend.
Pastoral's Artisan Producer's Festival takes place this Saturday at the Chicago French Market. I went last year, and I can't recommend it enough. Not only is it very cool to meet over 80 chefs and foodie people who have started their own business around yummy things, but you will leave STUFFED! I got to try dozens of cheeses and even a small glass of $80 wine. (I learned that I can't tell the difference between $80 wine and $8 wine.) If you do one thing all weekend, do this!
As you know, I'm not a fan of bar crawls. However, I'm going to recommend the Super Hero/Super Villain Bar Crawl for two reasons: A) because it's like Halloween without the failed attempts to be slutty or ironic and B) it takes place in the South Loop which means the Lincoln Park/Wrigleyville trixies probably won't want to go. Maybe I'll go buy a She-Ra costume.
Missed Baconfest? (I did, although I definitely plan to go next year.) Enjoy a low-key version at Fat Cat in Uptown tomorrow at 3 p.m. This annual gathering will feature over 20 different bacon treats and different beers to pair. What sort of dishes can you expect? How about chorizo stuffed dates wrapped in bacon, candied bacon, cheesy bacon popcorn and chocolate bourbon bacon cake. Yes, please.
