I'm usually pretty lame on Monday nights, sitting on the couch, combing through my DVR, but last night my friends and I headed over to Hamburger Mary's to try our hand at HamBINGO.
HamBINGO takes place every Sunday and Monday nights at 8 p.m. While they repeatedly tell you that this isn't "church basement bingo," you have to see it for yourself. Drag diva Velicity Metropolis is the host, making dirty jokes about the numbers and generally mocking people. If you win, you get to pick out a pretty random prize - my friend won a flamingo puppet - and then you have to walk around the room while everyone throws that round's crumpled bingo cards at you. I didn't win anything, so I of course did some good throwing.
While the bingo nights are a blast, the real purpose is to raise money for a local charity. Each night is hosted by a different organization that gets 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of the bingo cards. While any charity can participate, they have to fit with Hamburger Mary's established belief of "open-air bar & grille for open-minded people."
I've read different pricing for the actual bingo cards, so I can't really confirm what the permanent cost is. We each paid $15, and we got three bingo cards for each round, 10 rounds total. You could get an additional three cards for each round for another $10.
If you're planning to go, get their early. My friends and I got their at around 7 p.m. to have dinner, and by 7:30 p.m. it was standing room only. You should get there early anyway because the food is awesome.
