The Bacon Takedown is probably going to take me down

Since bathing suit weather is officially over, and my cold weather wardrobe consists of flowy shirts and cardigans, there's no reason why I can't gorge myself at the bacon orgy I'm about to attend.

Where will I be Sunday? At the 3rd annual Bacon Takedown. For $15 you can stuff yourself with an assortment of gourmet bacon concotions by amateur Chicago chefs. Each chef is given 15 pounds of bacon to make their most delicious dish. Last year's winners were the bacon mac & cheese wrapped in bacon, Sticky Belly and bacon toffee lollipops. I tried all three of these, and they were heavenly. Attendees can vote for their favorites, and the winner will get a year's supply of bacon.

I don't know much about Avondale, and I haven't really ever spent time there. Therefore, I'm going to take advantage of A Day in Avondale on Saturday. The festival celebrates the neighborhood's restaurants, arts, music and children's activities. If you want to help promote the event, email avondale.unite@gmail.com. They're chalking the city and a volunteer will drop off your designated chalk.

On Saturday you can head over to Lincoln Park at Clark and LaSalle for Chipotle's Cultivate Festival. Now, I don't really like Chipotle, but this festival is actually pretty cool. Chipotle chefs (I'm not sure what that means) create new dishes for the event using locally-sourced ingredients...and it's free. And since, let's face it, this is a giant Chipotle promotion, might I also recommend heading over to the Artisan's Hall to sample and buy items from local businesses, chefs, brewers and other shops.

And Chocolat is playing for Movies in the Park tonight!!!

  • Say hi to Homer for me at the Bacon Festival.

There is a story about the Chipotle chefs, but what I would say about them would offend a whole category within Chicago Now. So, I won't
