I completely forgot that it was Air & Water Show weekend until I was scared half to death by jets buzzing over the downtown area. Since lining the Lake is not an option for the Quirk - I don't like to be mowed down by double-wide strollers and mini vans - I'll have to find something else to do.
Check out this event I found: a Blockbuster Hunger Games Release Party. That's right, there are still Blockbuster stores left in the city of Chicago. I guess I just assumed they all retreated to outlying suburbs. The party celebrates the release of the popular movie on DVD and attendees can watch a movie screening, play trivia, learn self-defense techniques and receive a Tribute mini-makeover. Is it just me or does this sound really awesome? I guess Blockbuster has had to step up its game.
The North Side Summer Fest is the weekend, and while it wouldn't normally be anything to boast about, there's a new spin on it: hot dogs. All sorts of North Center spots will be trying their hand at creating the most delicious version of this Chicago favorite. And, of course, there's a hot dog eating contest.
This is the last weekend you'll have to endure me shoving Shakespeare in the Park at you. But you need to go!!!! Shakespeare comedy "The Taming of the Shrew" will play at Frank J. Wilson Park today, tomorrow and Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
If you are going to brave the Air & Water Show, check out this deal: Sand Bar Beer Garden. Pay $75 and you get great sits and unlimited food and drink. I would not usually recommend such a pricy package, but I think in this case sanity is worth it.
