Time to reach out and touch someone...it's National PDA Day

I just can't get enough of these fake holidays, and I have a great one for you: National PDA Day. This day was created by Nivea, the lotion company) in a pretty awesome PR program, but I actually really like what it stands for.

(Yes, I'm aware that what it really stands for is selling more product, but why not look at the silver lining?)

While I'm not a fan of days that manufacture love, I do think we need more of it. We spend way too much time texting and Skyping and not enough time with the people who are actually in the room with us. According to Tina B. Tessina, a licensed psychotherapist and author of “Money, Sex and Kids: Stop Fighting About the Three Things That Can Ruin Your Marriage," physical contact with humans or pets boosts  your serotonin and oxytocin levels to improve your mood.

Also, let's note the significance of June 20, the first day of summer. According to research conducted by Dr. Kory Floyd, a professor who specializes in the communication of affection, summertime is the best season for PDA.
