More faux holidays! And these are even better because you can eat cheese! Cheese has got to be the most delicious food item, after chocolate and bacon of course. And get ready for an overload because both National Cheese Fondue Day and National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day are this week.
The Melting Pot is giving away FREE cheese fondue from now until Friday to celebrate National Cheese Fondue Day, April 11. You don't need any special coupons or flyers, but you do need to make a reservation. And since a national restaurant is giving away something for free, I'd make your reservations ASAP because you know people have already jumped on that.
Tomorrow is National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day, eateries around Chicago are celebrating with more than just your average Kraft Singles. Mity Nice is offering grilled cheese and tomato jam sandwiches on country sour dough with a blend of four cheeses for $10. Head over to McGee's Tavern & Grille for five grilled cheese sandwich options with twisted butters and paired with selected beers. And you can always count on The Counter for something special. The restaurant will have grilled cheese specials all month long, and this week's is called "The Kicker," a sandwich with jalapeno jack, Tillamook cheddar, jalapenos, tomatoes and chipotle aioli for $7.00.
(Sadly, unless one of these places can make me a decent grilled cheese matzah sandwich, I won't be partaking. And in case you were wondering, it's not possible to make a good grilled cheese matzah sandwich.)
