I'm so confused by this weather! On Tuesday I left my apartment in the morning with boots, my winter coat and an extra sweater and came home with everything stuffed in my little tote bag. This all feels very "The Day After Tomorrow" to me. At least it's the weekend!
Happy International Tom Hanks Day! Oh yes, this is real. For the ninth year in a row, this now international event will raise money for Mr. Hanks' favorite charity, Lifeline Energy, in a massive celebration of the actor. This year, Fizz Bar & Grill will show Tom Hanks films and television shows from noon to 6:00 p.m., host drink specials and even Tom Hanks trivia and costume contests. Want to learn more about this phenomenon? Check out this Chicago Sun-Times article written last year.
Time to chuck those Hot Topic posters and upgrade to vintage masterpieces. The International Vintage Poster Fair is the only show in the world completely dedicated to original posters. This year's feature is the "Seven Deadly Sins," showing the famous vices through a selection of original posters. You can also sift through food and liquor advertisements and travel, film and transportation posters. Admission is $15 and tickets are valid the entire weekend.
This Saturday night, Chicago storytellers will compete to win the coveted Hogwash Cup at the 43rd annual Biggest Liar Contest. Held at the Herdegen-Brieske Funeral Home - yeah, a funeral home - the winner will be decided by a panel of judges and audience vote. Tickets are $15 and you get free lemon meringue pie.
Don't forget about Earth Hour on Saturday at 8:30 p.m.!
