Celebrate Valentine's Day with the Happy Hooker

Celebrate Valentine's Day with the Happy Hooker

Even though I'm married, I'm still not in to Valentine's Day. My husband and I plan to go to our favorite hole-in-the-wall in Chinatown, come home and stuff ourselves with the goodies I baked for work. (I'll take any excuse to make tasty treats.) Obviously, it's a Tuesday night, so you can go about your normal business. However, if you are looking for a little cupid-themed activities this evening, see below for a few suggestions.

Nothing says love like mass murder, so get your last-minute tickets to the Tommy Gun's Garage re-enactment of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. On February 14, 1929 seven members of the Bugs Moran gang were brutally murdered in an event that rocked the country. Being that Tommy Gun's Garage is Prohibition Era speakeasy/dinner theater restaurant, they have reenacted this event every year for 25 years. I can promise you, the re-enactment is extremely realistic, so if you scare easily I would skip it.

I think I'm about the only one who doesn't like "The Princess Bride," but attending a viewing in the gorgeous Music Box Theatre sounds like a nice way to spend the evening. Make it better by dressing up as one of the characters from the movie.

If "The Princess Bride" is too tame for you, Jane Addams Hull House Museum is hosting sex+++, a free screening of “The Happy Hooker: Portrait of a Sexual Revolutionary.”

While your celebrating love and togetherness today, I ask you to remember a very sweet little girl, Donna. The daughter of the always awesome Mary Tyler Mom, Donna was diagnosed with cancer at 20-months-old. After a hard battle, this brave little girl passed away. In memory of Donna's incredible energetic and joyful spirit, there will be a St. Baldrick's Event on March 24 to raise money to fund cancer research. Check out the event here, and, if you're so inclined, make a donation.
