Make whatever disparaging remarks you want about Valentine's Day, but it is here to stay. Sure, I'm one of those girls that thinks the holiday is stupid and avoids anything pink, but I'm going to be honest and say that if my husband doesn't come home with some sort of chocolate/flower/heart trinket, I'm a tad bit disappointed. Since, as you know, I like to add a quirky spin to just about everything, I'm going to start a new feature called "Countdown to a Quirky Valentine's Day," featuring all of the strange and oddly romantic gifts you can get your loved ones.
We'll start with the always popular $100,000 Valentine's Day package.
In the true spirit of holiday marketing, the Fairmont Chicago is offering a very impressive outing. For a mere $100 K (plus tax), you get to live like a king for two nights in the hotel's roomy 1,850-square-foot Presidential Suite. You and your sweetheart will receive six dozen roses through the suite, a trail of roses to the bedroom, an in-room, 90-minute massage for two, a Chef's Table seating at aria restaurant, breakfast in bed each morning and your own private butler during your entire stay.
But, wait! There's more! How about a "Fairy Tale Moments" bubble bath? Enjoy a pre-soak ritual of Cristal champagne and strawberries followed by a lavender bath with more rose petals and candlelight. Top it off with personalized robes and slippers.
And since it's hard to believe that all of that could cost $100,000, the hotel has thrown in a $10,000 Saks Fifth Avenue "gift card" with a VIP personal shopping experience in the Fifth Avenue Club, as well as a white diamond and sapphire necklace from Marshall Pierce & Company weighing 5.83 carats.
Now, let's be honest. No one is going to purchase this package. But it's fun to dream.
Stay tuned for more affordable Valentine's Day selections.
