No surprise that the big news is that everyone is scrambling to make reservations for Restaurant Week . Since there's really nothing quirky about that, I won't be covering it. Although I will tell you that I'm crazy excited to go to Blackbird for lunch.
Happy year of the dragon!!!! The Chinese New Year is upon us, and the place to celebrate is Chinatown. Don't miss Sunday's Lunar New Year parade as it steps off Wentworth and 24th at 1:00 p.m. Chinatown festivities start at 11:30 a.m.
Every want to see crazy people jump into Lake Michigan in the middle of winter? The insanity that is the Lakeview Polar Bear Club will host it's annual "Celebration of Shrinkage" tomorrow at Oak Street Beach at noon. Of course, you can dive in with them! If you want to plunge, be there by 11:00 a.m.
I don't know if this makes me a total loser, but I love any sort of boat/camper/RV/auto show. I love the free stuff and people watching, but my favorite is whatever rides the show comes up with. Remember the car rides along that hilly track at the Auto Show? That was my version of Great America. Strictly Sail Chicago is taking place this weekend, and the two reasons to go are the sailing simulator (perfect for people who get seasick...like me) and the largest yacht ever to be displayed indoors.
One of my favorite fancy sandwich places had its own food truck!! Eleaven Food Company's truck hit the streets this week with sandwiches, salads and something called piewhiches. I must have this. Follow the truck on Twitter to track it down.
