Get to know the Chicago tap scene with "Tap Like Water" tomorrow night

If you've followed my blog for any length of time you've probably notice my love of tap dance. It's an art form that deserves infinitely more appreciation than it gets. And I'm also a tap dancer.

I know I'm always recommending various shows you should go see, but this time I'm underlining it: you must go see this show!

Dance Chicago will present "Tap Like Water," an amazing display of the Chicago tap dance scene. And I'm not talking "42nd Street" musical tap dancing. This is the next generation of tap dance, exploring the world of rhythm to include hip hop and out of control movement.

The show has been put together by tap giant Tre Dumas, a dancer who has tapped for international audiences and with some of the biggest legends in tap history. Dumas' company Jus'LisTeN will perform, as well as Chicago tap groups like Tap Factory and Sour Apples Crew.

What is Dance Chicago? From October 15 through February 18, Dance Chicago will feature over 300 individual acts and over 2,500 artists in three Chicago theaters. In its 17th season, Dance Chicago gives the city's best choreographers and dancers a venue to display their talents. You'll everything from major companies like Hubbard Street to experimental pieces from local groups.

You can purchase tickets to "Tap Like Water" on the Dance Chicago website. Tickets are $27, but if you use the discount code DC11**FB you'll receive $7 off.

Leave a comment if you're planning on going, and be sure to tell me what you think of it!
