Halloween is one of my favorite holidays of the year! Forget the slutty costumes and November 1 hang-overs; I love haunted houses, scary movies and eating candy corn until I want to puke. We have a few months to go before we can celebrate, but Fear City is already preparing.
Today from 5:00 - 11:00 p.m. Fear City, a brand new haunted house in Morton Grove, is holding auditions at Excalibur to find more than 50 actors to work in the haunted house throughout October.
The audition notice asks that you bring your resume, costumes, makeup, props and any "special skills fit for Halloween consumption." That makes me want to go to the audtion just to people watch.
There are more bad haunted houses than good in Chicagoland - Do: Chronicles of the Cursed/Don't: Statesville Haunted Prison - so I'm very excited for Fear City. The house will open in October in a 40,000-square-foot former wearhouse space that used to churn out lawn ornaments. (Maybe they'll utilize the left-over pink flamingos...)
The fact that they've already started building and casting gives me high hopes for this haunted house; especially since the website boasts Emmy Award winning design teams and Broadyway-caliber costumes and makeup. Ticket prices are on-par with other local haunted houses: $25 a person, $35 with a 'line jump' option and possibly a small promotional trinket. Tickets are on sale now.
Stay tuned in October for my reviews of all of the area's best and worst haunted houses...
