What's Up This Week: SRO residents worry about living on the streets; The New Jim Crow; holding police accountable

Homeless? Curtis Horton and his partner Henrietta Riley could be facing life on the streets after the sale of the Chateau, a single-room-occupancy hotel the two are currently living in. Read their story on Chicago Muckrakers this morning.

The New Jim Crow. Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow, compared the large number of people of color in prison to the system of Jim Crow in the South. She will be speaking at the University of Chicago on Thursday.

Residents Fight Eviction. A group of tenants at a Rogers Park high-rise facing eviction and rent hikes from will have a rally Monday to protest the building's owners.

People's Hearing on Police Crimes. A group of human rights and anti-police violence organizations don't think the city is doing an adequate job of holding the Chicago Police Department accountable. So they are holding a hearing of their own this coming Saturday.
