Black women in Cook County make 61 cents on the dollar when compared to white men

The National Partnership for Women and Families recently released a report on the wage gap for African-American women in the U.S. We took a look at state and local data to see how big of a gap there is between a white man and a black woman's median yearly income nationwide, statewide and in Cook County. Here's what we found:

If black women want to earn as much as white men then they should avoid getting pregnant as teenagers and stay in school longer. Work harder, get more qualifications and experience and EARN that money.

Or alternately, sit around and whine about how mean the world is.

It's a sad commentary on the failure of our education system that so many people are incapable of understanding (a) this pay gap asssertion specifically does NOT mean "for the same work" and (b) that rather than emphasize what people with lower wages need to do to earn more money, too many liberal Democratic politicians exploit this economic illiteracy. When our (very broke) state of Illinois government perpetuates the wage-gap myth as evidence of irrational discrimination, it brainwashes a dupable electorate.

  • I would like to see a study on the average increase in a business' revenue due to hiring a white male, versus the increase in revenue due to hiring a black female.
