What's Up This Week: Our new issue, Springfield in session and noisemakers for prisoners

New Issue. We are excited to announce that 40th anniversary issue of The Chicago Reporter will be online this week. In it, we track the history of four of the Reporter's key beats over the last four decades, look at our most impactful stories and do Q&As with some of our past publishers.

Lame Ducks. Springfield is back at work Thursday for the lame duck session. Legislators who will not be returning for the new session in January will have one last week to push for legislation before they leave their seat.

Undocumented Drivers Licenses. The Illinois House is to consider legislation Friday that would allow undocumented immigrants to get a driver's license. Immigrant rights community group Casa Michoacan will invite people to its Pilsen office Thursday to call their legislators and urge them to vote for the bill.

New Year's for the Imprisoned. Inmates at the Metropolitan Correctional Center and Cook County Jail may hear some unusual noises Monday. A group of activists are planning to hold a "noise demo" outside both jails to let people welcoming the New Year behind bars know they have not been forgotten.
