Every week on the Barber Shop Show, our weekly radio on Vocalo 89.5 FM, we bring you stories and voices you've just got to hear.
This week, we're featuring one close to home: our own Maria Zamudio, talking about her recent investigation, Dying for Attention, in this month's issue of the Chicago Reporter.
Zamudio investigated Illinois' stagnant child homicide cases and found that in 20 percent of the cases, officials from the Department of Children and Family Services had investigated claims of abuse and neglect within a year and dismissed them as "unfounded."
Zamudio also shared with us her thoughts on what it was like to write about these cases, not only to read the details of child homicide cases but to interview family members about their losses.
It's a tough subject, but one worth talking about. We hope you'll join us this Friday from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on the Barber Shop Show, broadcast live from the floor of Carter's Barber Shop in North Lawndale, for this important conversation.
