Chicago Reporter hires new blogger

I can honestly say that when it comes to investigative reporting, our staff has done some of the best work in Chicago. We're one of the oldest investigative mags in the nation, and we've got the awards and policy changes to back the work we've done.

But when it comes to blogging, we (ah-hem) need help.

Today, I'm glad to report that we've hired reporter Megan
Cottrell as a part-time writer to help move us in the right direction. This year, Megan won the Best Chicago Blog from the Chicago Reader and is the author of the popular housing blog "One Story Up". Megan has blogged for
True/Slant, Change.org, ChicagoNow and was a reporter for the Chi-town Daily
News
.

While Megan is known mostly for her housing coverage, her work for the Reporter will also include blogging about immigration, criminal justice, labor, health and politics.

Megan is sharp and quick and was able to get her first blog post out before I got out her announcement. So check it out.

Megan's hiring is just one of several steps to improve blogging at the Reporter. Earlier this summer, we hired seasoned journalist Angela Caputo from Progress Illinois. We're launching her first major investigation tonight at M Lounge, 1520 S. Wabash. Come join us if you can from 6-8 p.m. and meet both Megan and Angela.
