"Marijuana, in its natural form, is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man."
-DEA Law Judge Francis Young, 1988.
We live in a world where the term "medical marijuana" brings on skepticism, eye rolling and judgement from the masses. The very sight of this blog might bring on the same for many. But the number of people in that category is dwindling.
On August 1st, 2013, Governor Pat Quinn signed a bill allowing the use of cannabis for medicinal purposes here in Illinois. Quinn's signature made us the 20th state in the U.S. to legalize medical marijuana. Two states (Colorado and Washington) have legalized it completely and several others are expected to do the same by 2016.
What's the point?
To put it simply, marijuana isn't going anywhere. The days of reefer madness are long behind us and aren't returning. The age of information has awoken the hive mind to the truth about a plant that's been demonized for decades without a shred of evidence to justify it. Medical marijuana is helping thousands of people across the country every day without many of the side effects induced by pharmaceuticals. From cancer and AIDS to depression and PTSD, the research is overwhelmingly in marijuana's favor.
This blog aims to bring you news, research, opinions and information about all things marijuana with a focus on developments in Illinois. Thoughts and opinions from every side of the argument are welcomed and encouraged.
I hope to make this blog relevant to current users, prospective patients and the average citizen whose knowledge is limited to what the mainstream media has told them.
The truth is, even if you can't benefit from marijuana, you probably know someone who can.
Let's get educated.
