9:00pm... Salonathon: The Callbox... An Untraditional Story Hour curated by Von Vogt presents Being Human at Beauty Bar Chicago (1444 W Chicago Ave, Chicago, Illinois 60622) featuring readings by Ally Subak, Andrew Sa and many more. Girl Jam 2014: A Night for Refugee Girls in Chicago is happening at Revolution Brewing (2323 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60647) don't miss this awesome opportunity to raise awareness for GirlForward, an organization that supports female refugees. 7:30pm... Hoo HA Comedy is back at Rockit Burger Bar (3700 N. Clark, Chicago, Illinois 60613) hosted by Kristen Toomey and featuring raucous performances by Marlena RoderiguezAndy Boyle and many more. Burgers, beer and comedy? Sounds heavenly. Tickets $5 online/$8 at the door. 

Also happening at 7:30pm at Schuba's (3159 N. Southport, Chicago, Illinois 60657) is another installment of Applied Words. The theme for this show is It Gets Better and will feature performances by Jill HoweGreg Ledger and many more. Door prizes include a $50 gift basket donated by Early To Bed. Free admission/21+.

2:00pm... Come out and hear some of the promising young voices of our literary future at Columbia College Chicago's Creative Writing Department Undergrad Open Mic: A Story Week Kickoff Event at 623 S. Wabash. The stories are bound to knock your socks off. Free admission. 

7:30pm... The Killing of Michael X written by Cory Hinkle and presented by Jackalope Theater Company is premiering at Broadway Armory Park (5917 N. Broadway Ave., Chicago, Illinois 60660). This offbeat play sounds like a lost David Lynch movie complete with runaway teenagers in a stolen car, femurs found buried in a backyard and a storyline featuring Big Pharma. Get tickets. 

Also happening at 7:30pm is another installment of A Month Of... at Stage 773 (1225 W. Belmont, Chicago, Illinois 60657). This potluck reading series' theme of the month is Immediately Understood! So pig out with friends and listen to some amazing stories in what is sure to be a cozy and inspiring night. $10/Free admission if you a bring a dish to pass.

9:00pm... Unwind at The New Artist Lounge/Maurice's Birthday at The Underground Wonder Bar (710 N. Clark St., Chicago, Illinois 60654) and hear some gypsy jazz provided by Bo and the Birthday Blowjobs and some hilarious standup by the one and only Maurice. $5 admission.

6:00pm... Chicago Zine Fest 2014 is finally here! Taking place at The Hairpin Arts Center (2800 N. Milwaukee Ave 2nd Floor, Chicago, Illinois 60618) this unique festival provides a spotlight for all the incredible entrepreneurs you know and the ones you should know.
