At Chicago Literati, we're all about fostering creativity in the hearts and minds of our city's youth, so imagine how delighted I was to receive a press release about a holiday show written by students of the Chicago Public School District:
Barrel of Monkeys invites you to join them by the imaginary hearth and celebrate the warmth of the holiday season with THAT’S WEIRD, GRANDMA: THE HOLIDAY SPECIAL, featuring a festive array of holiday-themed favorites like Santa and Taco Bell, The Crazy Reindeer, Snowmen From Pluto, Santa’s Mean Day and many more – all conceived and written by Chicago Public School students and adapted for the stage and performed by Barrel of Monkeys Company Members.
That's right, Barrel of Monkeys is an arts education theater ensemble that teaches creative writing workshops in Chicago Public Schools for third through fifth graders and then performs more than 300 shows for the kids and 175 stories for the public.
