2nd Annual LitFest Draws Writers from Across the Country
Media Session with Literature Awards Finalists 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on 4/6/13
chicago, il / (3/21/13) — The 2013 LitFest, a writers conference featuring workshops, seminars, panels and a book fair, will take place Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Chicago State University. Faculty include Randall Horton, recent NEA Fellow and notable Chicagoans Kelly Norman Ellis, Quraysh Lansana, Patrick Oliver, Krista Franklin and Zhanna Vaynberg of Academy Chicago Publishers. The LitFest is free and open to the public.
“The LitFest is special because it caters to writers of all abilities from all walks of life,” said Randall Horton, who also serves as editor for the sponsoring publisher, Aquarius Press/Willow Books. The signature activity is the Literature Awards Finalists’ Reading with ten finalists from across the country competing for two grand prizes to be announced live. The event will be emceed by Jay Scott Smith, a journalist and reporter for Newsweek. The 2013 Finalists represent a broad spectrum of writing styles and come from diverse backgrounds. The finalists include Angie Chuang, a second-generation Chinese writer and journalism professor from Washington, DC and Joseph Rios, a resident of Clovis, CA and a graduate of UC-Berkeley. Another finalist, S. Li, is a Boston neurologist.
The mission of Willow Books is to develop, publish and promote writers typically under-represented in the literary marketplace. The finalists and LitFest Faculty are available for interviews.
