While the Top Five publishers are scouring for their next big celebrity author and/or paranormal serial collection, independent publishers like Dzanc Books, Curbside Splendor and Elephant Rock Productions are going out on a limb and publishing novice authors with short story anthologies. It's worth mentioning in light of Random House purchasing Penguin that The Big Five are somewhat losing their sway over readers while indie publishers are gaining readers because of their audacity and commitment to quality prose.
Tonight on Twitter, Chicago Literati will be conducting a symposium asking fellow readers whether or not they believe the short story is making a comeback. If you're eloquent enough we'll publish you on the blog tomorrow.
The symposium starts at 7PM and closes at 1oPM.
