Spring is officially here and we all know what that means - the return of loud, gas
guzzling and environmentally hazardous leaf blowers & lawn
mowers. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), a
traditional gas powered lawn mower produces as much air pollution as 43
new cars each being driven 12,000 miles.
Leaf blowers are also a huge
contributor to pollution by using fuel needlessly, creating smog and
contributing to particulate matter emissions which cause allergies, lung
disease and asthma. Not to mention that in one year, the average blower
used by a professional gardener emits as much smog-forming pollution as
80 new cars, each driven 12,500 miles. If you must use a leaf blower, choose one that isn't gas powered.
Try using a push mower or an electric mower like a Neuton, I have
one and love it! Grab yourself a rake, an eco-friendly mower and trim your waistline while you trim your lawn the green way. Then have a nice, cold beer to reward yourself! Clean Air Gardening has wonderful eco-friendly options for maintaining your lawn.
You can also see if there is a Clean Air Lawn Care in
your area, a new eco-friendly lawn care franchise which uses electric equipment
that is charged using solar and wind power. We need to take care of nature using methods that are kind to our planet and help sustain it!
