Earlier this spring I wrote an article on Chicago's Sustainable Backyard Program for GapersBlock. There's still time to participate in the program and get money back for installing a rain barrel, compost bin, planting a tree and native plants in your garden.
I've written two articles for Tribune newspapers. The first, Websites to Help the Gardener Grow on some informative and inspirational websites that every gardener should bookmark and visit. The second, Quick! What's that Plant? an article about smart phone apps for gardeners who are looking to identify trees and plants across the country. There's also suggestions for websites to use to help get a plant ID for those gardeners who don't own smart phones. Check them both out and share them with gardeners you know.
The 11th Annual County Fair is this Saturday at the Garfield Park Conservatory and you can enter your One Seed Chicago Swiss Chard crops in the harvest showcase. Also, the Lurie Garden is having a native plant sale from 10-3. A modified version of Joe Baldwin's dream of installing a garden on a train will hit the CTA on the same day for Art on Track.
