Slow Food Chicago is hosting a four hour workshop that will teach you what you need to learn to become a backyard orchardist in Chicago. Yes, you can grow several fruiting trees in Chicago and you don't even need a lot of land since many fruiting trees can be grown in containers indoors and out. Here's what the workshop will cover:

Best choices of fruit trees and berry plants to grow organically in the Chicago area. Container growing of fruit trees, indoor and out. How to graft a fruit tree that you are unable to find from a garden center or nursery around Chicago. You'll also get an introduction to the basics of fruit tree pruning. The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, April 9th from 1:00-5:00pm at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. The cost is $35/$25 for Slow Food Chicago members. The fee includes one rootstock and scion of your choice. They will also have Paw Paw seedlings available for sale. To register see this link
