Some events related to gardening in Chicago for August that I've come across. As always, if you're having an event or know of one that would be of interest to gardeners you can leave a message in the comments. I'll update the list as I find more things to do around Chicago to get your gardening on. 

**Every Wednesday in August Veggie Bingo at the HideOut to benefit Chicago's community gardens.

August 8th, 9th: Kite Flying Performances & Kite making workshop. In the open area near Evening Island. Professional demos by the Chicago Fire Kite Team. Kids can makes kites at workshops from 11AM-2PM.1000 Lake Cook Road, Glencoe, IL 60022 847-835-5400

August 9th: Book Swap and Reading at Ginkgo Organic Community Garden. Garden opens at 1:30PM book swap is from 2-4PM and reading from 4PM-? $3.00 donation (or more if you can) or take a snack to share. Ginkgo Organic Community Garden is a volunteer operation that grows produce for low-income and homeless residents in the Uptown neighborhood, located at 4055 N Kenmore Ave.

August 14th: Summer Vegetable care-experienced gardeners will share their
best methods for keeping summer veggies and the soil they grow in
healthy and happy--including watering, weeding, mulching, staking,
harvesting and more. Free. Contact RP green space food systems or Thea
Carlson, Angelic Learning Center: 773-517-2193 Classes will meet in the
new Schreiber park Community Garden at the southwest corner of
Schreiber and Bosworth Aves in Rogers Park.

August 14th, 15th: Mid-America Bonsai Society Show and Sale. The 32nd Annual Show and Sale a the Chicago Botanic Garden. More than 200 bonsai tree will be displayed alongside bonsai from the Garden's own bonsai collection. Vendors will be selling bonsai trees, raw nursery stock, pots, tools and supplies. Lectures and demonstrations are free. More info here.

**Chicago Gardens: Past & Present. This exhibit closes on August 16th.

August 21st: Compost and Worms-Lean how to generate fertility for your
garden by recycling your food and yard waste through backyard
composting and indoor/outdoor worm bins. Free. Contact RP green space

August 22nd: "Show Me Your Tomatoes!" Contest at Cafe Ba Ba Reeba.

August 22nd,23rd: All About Peppers Weekend. Learn about growing and using hot and sweet peppers from 11AM-4PM at the Regenstein Fruit & Vegetable Garden at the Chicago Botanic Garden. 1000 Lake Cook Road, Glencoe, IL 60022 847-835-5400
 

August 25th: Re-Thinking Soup at the Hull-House kitchen reopens. Try to make a stop at the Hull-House Heirloom Farm
